Looking for a quick gift knitting pattern? Have a gorgeous skein of Aran weight yarn and you’re wondering what to do with it? Or maybe you want a cabled hat pattern sized for the whole family? (Matching Christmas pictures anyone?!) Then check out the single skein knitting pattern, Serene Snow!
Once Upon a Time…
Serene Snow started with an email… scratch that. This cabled hat pattern started many years ago with some good old-fashioned Instagram stalking of Camellia Fiber Company.
Indie dyer, Silbia Ro, specializes in gorgeous, subtle colors on natural fibers–all my favorites, right there already–and her photography is so soothing and stunning. So I drooled over her IG profile and spend hours (literally) scrolling around her site.

So when I saw that she, too, would be at Vogue Knitting Live! this February, I decided it was time to reach out and see if we could maybe collaborate on a pattern for the event. Her response made my day!
We started chatting about yarn options and stitch types when she told me about her new 8-ply Aran weight merino base, Serene Merino Aran, which is launching today (and you can get 20% off a single skein with the code SERENESNOW)! Then she sent me a picture of the Aran-style sweater she’d just knit with it. I was HOOKED and this cabled hat pattern was born.
What Makes this Cabled Hat Pattern Special
I’m all about stunning but secretly simple, so this gorgeous cabled hat pattern is made with only 2 cables!
To showcase these stitches, I’ve made two video tutorials, which show you how to knit the 2/2 and 3/2/3 cables quickly and easily so you can fly through your Christmas knit list.
Better still, the hat is sized from baby to adult large, with a lot of stretch to accommodate growth in the kiddos and different sized heads! So it’s the perfect gift knit to make for all your loved ones–or just for yourself!
The Details for Serene Snow
Temperatures drop and the clouds roll in. A gentle hush falls all around you. And then you see it–the first snowflake. By morning, a coating of snow paints the world white–fresh and new. You step outside, snow crunching under your boots, head warm and dry in your cabled hat, and breath in a frosty breath of serenity.
Serene Snow sports a gorgeous cabled design using only 2 cable stitches! It knits up in 5 sizes perfect for the whole family. And the stretchiness of ribbing makes it the perfect gift knit as it can fit every head!
Size
1 (2, 3, 4, 5) – Baby (Toddler/Child, Teen, Adult Small, Adult Large)

Since it’s entirely in ribbing, it has a TON of stretch. I’m wearing the 17″, but you can also see it on my kids’ and husband’s heads! One size could to fit every head, but in case you like a little more room, or want to fit the head of a little one, you’ve got options!
