The wren is a tiny bird whose song has a BIG range! And that’s exactly what Wren Song offers–a little project with a big range. This simple lace and easy cables cowl pattern is absolutely stunning and quick to work up.
A Long Time Ago, On An Instagram Far, Far Away…
The story of the Wren Song began years ago with my first shawl pattern, Wildland, and a tester named Jesse.
Jesse was fun to talk to, gave me lots of great feedback, and knit a truly stunning version of Wildland with yarn she dyed herself. You see, Jesse is a color maven. So I was thrilled to hear when she decided to become an indie dyer.

She began in bright braids and has made the move to all-natural pastels on sustainable US-sourced yarns under her new name, The Wren Wife. And she creates and combines colors in a way that absolutely floors me.
We kept up over the years and became great friends, talking for hours (literally) about knitting, fiber business, motherhood, and life. And this January, she’ll be showing at her first craft fair! So I asked if she’d want to team up to create a pattern and sample for her booth. The answer was an enthusiastic YES!
When I asked her what she wanted in the cowl, her answer was “I love lace! Ooo, but cables…” So lace and cables it is!
The Details: Lace & Easy Cable Cowl Pattern
This tapered cowl is knit in the round from the bottom up, starting with a gorgeous mixed motif of simple lace and easy cables in both written and charted instructions. Then you’ll zip through a band of stockinette and a 1/1 ribbed edging and you’ll be done before you know it!
This lace and cable cowl pattern will add flair to any outfit or whip it up as a last minute gift that will impress!
